Been A While…

Hello Friends…. It has been such a long time since I have posted a Blog entry. So much has happened since my shadow post so, it will take me a while to catch you all up.

Over the next few weeks, I will share experiences and lessons learned, both personal as well as DIY and all the other things. For today, I will just share where we are and not really how we got here.

We are enjoying our first winter living here at the farm, the beauty of the snow in the valley is just absolutely breathtaking, and this is coming from someone who does not like winter. My daily walks with Remington allow me to connect with this beautiful piece of mountain that we are now stewards of. I am learning how to identify different animal tracks and the species of plant life around us, and the importance of taking care of our ecosystem in which we live.

The connection that we are building with our new home is well beyond the walls in which we habitate, our creek bed which bisects our farm had been dry since April, just a few days into 2024, we have a running creek again and we cheered. The 20 acres of forest, has been severely neglected for more than half a century, so many invasive species are choking out our Native trees, shrubs and grasses, meeting with our local DNR office, we have learned so much about how to care for our woodlands and we have started removing the vines, Tree of heaven and multiflora rose that are wreaking havoc on our forest. The wild Turkeys, Deer, Racoons and yes, even the bear and coyotes are all part of what makes this place special and we are so honored to be protectors of them all (however, if any of these residents hurt my Remi, there will be repercussions.)

This new chapter of our lives is so full of promise, responsibility and joy. I can’t wait to share all the experiences, good, bad and ugly. For now, I hope you will enjoy the snow photos and stay tuned as next week I will share our Kitchen Design and the little special touches to ensure that our Kitchen is functional even as we age!
