This week, I have seen a reoccurring themes in some of my interactions. First, it has been repeated several times in many different occurrences “you are not alone.” During this time of Covid, many of us are isolated, even if we are working, it may be teleworking and the usual office interaction isn’t happening. Just know, in what ever you are going through, you are not alone and sometimes you just need to ask to find your biggest cheerleader (as we are not all psychic.)

Secondly, when figuring out what I was going to blog about after My Fibro Story Video Post (below)

I wanted to lighten things up. Talking about health issues can sometimes be a little heavy and if you listened to the podcast I had recorded last year about my anxiety and depression, you are probably thinking; “Hey Steph, Let‘s lighten up!” Well you got it!

I have made it a recent habit to do something for myself everyday. Most days its relaxing in a tub with my favorite bath bomb, somedays it’s painting and listening to music as loud as I want. But, this time of year, the biggest mood boost is getting a Spray Tan! I mentally feel better with a tan but, there is this think called skin cancer and wrinkles that I want to avoid. That is where my friend (I feel weird calling her that as, she has become more than that, more like family) Stephanie Smith comes in. I was going to interview her about all things spray tan and then she showed me her blog. (Isn’t this photo of her fantastic, she is so sassy)

Some people may call it being lazy, others may say I am just being efficient but, never the less, I want you to hear the advice from the professional and not just regurgitated by me. So instead of sharing the information about spray tans and how to prep for your spray tan, how to keep them looking good longer, and all the other things, I am going to focus on doing the things you need to do to feel good and do good for yourself. (you can visit Stephanie’s site by clicking on the link above or on her photo)

So many of us are so busy doing all the things. We may be busy but, are we serving and honoring ourselves. Where does that leave us, tired, frustrated, depressed, anxious and in general not great to be around. One of my You Tube go to channels is Dominique Sachse, she is a News Anchor out of Houston and does beauty, style and other lifestyle videos. I love playing with makeup while watching her videos. Anyway, back in January, she had Covid and did one of her Videos while she was still sick. She couldn’t go anywhere, felt just horrible, hadn’t washed her hair in days and needed a mental lift. What did she do? Gave herself a Covid Makeover, which consisted of a shower, drying her hair, playing with makeup and styling her hair. She even commented while she was doing the video that she never thought once while filming the post about sneezing, how she couldn’t breathe and in general how bad she felt.

That is what doing good things for ourselves does, it takes what our current worries and issues are and gives us a pleasant distraction. It doesn’t change our situation but, it helps to lift our moods to take on our worries and issues with a new set of eyes.

So, today after my spray tan (even though it will continue to develop over the next 24 hours), I had a spring in my step, felt better, felt I looked better and my confidence was booming. I then spent a few hours with a friend I hadn’t seen in years (other than on Facebook) and yes that was another thing I did for myself and it was good for the soul.

It’s not selfish to do the things that make you happy and feel better, its destructive to not. I hope you will find something, even if its small, to do for yourself each day.

(My daughter Shea and I doing a photoshoot for Steph last summer, before the weight loss, just wait until next summer when I get the lbs off)
